The classic 1980s police drama T.J. Hooker, starring William Shatner and Adrian Zmed, premiered this week in 1982. William Shatner traded in his phaser for a real gun in this thrilling drama about a 15-year veteran detective who put himself back in uniform on the streets to help fight crime. He teamed up with rookie cop Vince Romano (Adrian Zmed) to teach him a thing or two about policing.

Any law enforcement officer will tell you that there’s a world of difference between Hollywood cops and the real thing, but for many members of the public, TV shows and movies shape how law enforcement officers are perceived. These shows give people a glimpse, accurate or not, into what it’s like to be “on the beat” in America’s cities.

The National Law Enforcement Museum has thousands of law enforcement artifacts in our archives; too many to display at once. We offer this regularly scheduled blog to give you a peek into our archives.
