Witness to History: The Hunt for the Green River Killer

On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, the National Law Enforcement Museum held a panel discussion on the Green River Killer through expert analysis and the insights of those involved in the investigation. Congressman Dave Reich shared the emotion moment he experiences, as then-Sheriff of King County, Washington, when he realized this team had finally found the Green River Killer after a twenty-year investigation. Reich recalled, “I got ya, asshole” were his words of relief after Gary Ridgeway was arrested for the murders. Dr. Robert Keppel is a former King County (WA) Sheriff’s Department Deputy and former Chief Criminal Investigator for the Washington State Attorney General’s Office. Keppel has investigated Ted Bundy and was asked to assist in the Green River Killer investigation. Bundy sent letters to Dr. Keppel offering his help in giving law enforcement information about the psyche of serial killers. Former Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Jana Monroe offered her comprehensive understanding of the nature of serial killers, explaining there is no formula that links every serial killer together.
